Most of my clients are experts in their own field, often with decades of knowledge, but getting that knowledge on to paper isn’t always very easy. Especially if English isn’t your first language.

As a proofreader, I need to make a piece feel as close to the original as possible, making sure the voice is one the client feels comfortable with, without changing too much of the content, but still making it readable for the chosen audience..

This was written by the client but some of the phrasing is inconsistent and there are a few spelling, grammar and punctuation wobbles.

 

So I wade in with my red to do this:

Often it doesn’t need lots of changes, but a few tweaks here and there make it a much easier read.

The client turns off the Tracked Changes in the Word doc, et voila!, a clean page, ready to use
